The Book Nuts met this evening in the Seguin Library Meeting Room to review (discuss) Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows’ book, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society.
And discuss we did!
We covered the characters in the book, World War II, the Guernsey Islands, the horror of war, rejected suitors, Tom Selleck, George Clooney, the devastation of Haiti, Shakespeare for Children, the beautiful sculptures of artist Marika Bordes
– back to the plot and sub-plot of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society,
gorging on turnips, romance novels, good writing, bad writing
– back to the characters of The Guernsey . . .
Mind you: we were drinking decaffeinated coffee.
It was a marvelous evening with fellow book lovers and certainly good for the soul.
The next meeting will be Monday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the library meeting room. We will be discussing Lisa Genova’s book Still Alice.
In March, the book selection is Right of Thirst by Frank Huyler.
The consensus was that after Right of Thirst, we will choose books with happier themes. The books our book club has selected thus far are excellent books, but we are ready for a read that has no sadness.
Of course, we still always manage a great deal of laughter before the evening has ended!
Book Nuts that we are!
