Faith is taking the first step,
even when you don’t see the whole staircase.
– Martin Luther King
There are several events in Seguin during this weekend commemorating the legacy of Martin Luther King. Yesterday evening was the Historical Fashion Show at TLU’s Wupperman Little Theater. A Taste of Soul – with delicious tastings! – at the Coliseum today. Tonight will be a Celebration and Dinner with speaker Frank Jackson of Prairie View A&M and gospel recording artist Cristal Smith.
Sunday at 7:00 p.m. there is a concert at TLU’s Jackson Auditorium (in Praise of Popular Song with Bett Butler) and on the 18th, Rev. Purnell Jr. of Wesley Harper UMC will speak in Central Park in downtown Seguin. The TLU Shabach Gospel Choir will sing at Central Park and on Monday, the symbolic march from Central Park to TLU’s Jackson auditorium with guest speaker Art Hall, president and CEO of Artah Holdings, Inc.
We’ve been attending some (not all) of these events since we moved to Seguin (well – perhaps about a year after moving here) and there is greater participation from Seguinites each year. The Planning Committee for this weekend does a marvelous job of coordinating, planning, and executing the varied events.
Martin Luther King raised the consciousness of civil rights and his legacy speaks to all of us.
Mission Statement of the Committee
The mission of the Martin Luther King Committee shall be to promote the life and struggle of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The committee shall through celebration demonstrate the struggle for equality and justice. The M.L.K. committee shall strive to keep Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s dream for Equality alive in the Seguin Area.
Dear Hubby especially enjoys the Soul Food – which is always so good – and this year was no exception!
